Track & Field Getting Better Each Week!
TRACK & FIELD
Returning from a 10-day break, the Laker MS Track Team jumped right back into action last Monday at TFA. Warm temps and tired legs couldn’t slow the Lakers down. Gabriel Mantovani led the team with wins in the 400 and the shot put, Manolo Fernandez Cuadrado finished 2nd in the 100 & 200, Mia Williams took the win in the long jump and finished 2nd in the 200, Sade Laitinen & Eshan Ali had impressive 3rd and 4th place finishes in the 800, while Sade, Lorenzo Allwood, and Michael Crocetti all had strong finishes and PRs in the 1600. Rounding out the top finishes were 8th graders Jason Schwartz (3rd in the 400) and Parker Brown (3rd in the Shot Put). Yesterday afternoon they competed in the final meet of the season, the GOAC Championships at Trinity Prep. Good Luck, Lakers!
Last Monday, sophomore Wade Martin broke the school record in the long jump with a jump of 6.15 meters! Then, the Lakers competed their hearts out on Saturday in the Buffalo Invitational at the Villages Charter School. Laker middle distance runners once again stole the show. Highlights included Chris Fetters’ performance in the 800m run. Going into the postseason, his time moves his ranking to #2 in the District and #6 in the Region. The Boys 4×400m relay of Zuhaib Khan, Mathews Peres, Chris Fetters, and Zavien Williams placed 1st overall and came very close to a 5-year-old school record, in addition to moving their ranking to #2 in the District and Region. On the Girls’ side, seniors Shanthi Ramakrishna, Sabrina Humphrey, and Natasha March teamed up with freshman Ann Casey to run a phenomenal 4×400m relay, the first of its kind since 2015. Districts are April 10th, and the Lakers have never looked stronger. Go Lakers!
