The WPS Cheer team will be wrapping up the season this Thursday with their biggest competition yet – States! Join us in wishing them good luck as they prepare to head to the University of Florida this Thursday. Go Lakers!

The Laker Competitive Cheer team had an amazing time at Regionals. the team worked hard all season on their routine, and it truly showed. The team hit 0 and placed 3rd out of 14 teams in their region. Way to go, Lakers! Next stop, States!

GIRLS SOCCER
The WPS Girls Soccer Team WINS the SSAC STATE CHAMPIONSHIP! The Varsity Girls Soccer team had an exciting week! By finishing first in their SSAC bracket, the team hosted a quarterfinal match against Admiral Farragut Academy winning 4-0. Manoela Costa scored twice and Silvana Lopez and LeAnne Diab each added a goal. With the quarterfinal win, the team advanced to the SSAC State Semifinals against Legacy Charter. It was a tough, hard-fought match with the Lakers winning 3-0. Goals were scored by Bel Teixeira, Megan Ikeda, and Gaby Azambuja with assists by Silvana Lopez, Bel Teixeira, and Courtney Mogauro. Goalkeeper Sarah Hudgins recorded her 8th shut-out of the season. The team then advanced to the SSAC State Championship game against The Master’s Academy with many Laker families and fans attending the game to cheer on the team! The match was a thriller and an intensely physical game between two great teams. It came down to the last couple of minutes with Windermere Prep bringing home the SSAC State Championship Trophy! The final score was 2-1 with goals by Manoela Costa and Bel Teixeira scoring off assists from Gaby Azambuja and Silvana Lopez. It was an entire team effort and every player played an important role contributing to the team’s success! Congratulations, Lakers!

This week, the Lakers will compete in the FHSAA District Playoffs opening up at home against The First Academy on Tuesday. Good luck!

Girls Soccer gets 3 wins last week!

The Varsity Girls Soccer team recorded three wins last week to improve their record to 7-3-1. The Lakers beat Mount Dora Christian on the road 8-0. Courtney Mogauro had three goals while Silvana Lopez tallied two goals and two assists. Gaby Azambuja, LeAnne Diab, and Brielyn Knowles each scored and recorded an assist for the Lakers. Manuela Zarrate added two assists and Bel Teixeira had one assist to round out the attack. Goalkeeper Sarah Hudgins recorded the shut-out. The team then celebrated their six seniors – Gaby Azambuja, LeAnne Diab, Maxi Graefe, Sarah Hudgins, Silvana Lopez, and Tommie Taylor – at home against Forest Lake Academy. They were victorious with a 3-0 win with Silvana Lopez scoring twice and Brielyn Knowles scoring one goal. Bel Teixeira recorded two assists and Maxi Graefe had one. Goalkeeper Sarah Hudgins recorded her 6th shut-out of the season. Finally, the Lakers closed out the week with a big SSAC Quarterfinal Playoff win at home against Admiral Farragut winning 4-0. Manoela Costa scored twice for the Lakers while Silvana Lopez and LeAnne Diab each added a goal. Silvana Lopez tallied three assists and Brielyn Knowles added one. The team returns to action on Monday against The First Academy at home and then later in the week will compete in the SSAC Final Four at All Saints Academy. The SSAC Semifinal matchup is against Legacy Charter on Friday. Go Lakers!
