The Laker varsity football team came up big with a Thursday win at home against Jordan Christian Prep. With the win, the varsity football team improves their record to 4-3. The Lakers put on a show in all three phases of the game, coming up with big plays on offense, defense, and special teams.
Offensively, the Lakers started fast, scoring on their first possession of the game when freshman Matthews Peres rushed in for a 21 yard touchdown run. Jordan Christian would score their only touchdown of the game on their ensuing kick off return. The rest of the game was dominated by Lakers ground game, as they rushed for 292 on 43 attempts. Leading the way in rushing yard was junior Robert Brand, who rushed for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns on 11 carries. Freshman fullback Mason Russell once again pounded the ball inside, rushing for 53 yards on 9 carries. The Lakers were also efficient through the air, as QB Parker Davis completed 8 of his 10 attempts with 2 touchdowns.
The Lakers defense was stout all night, giving up a total of 93 yards and holding Jordan Christian to an impressive 0-11 on third down conversions. Senior Boldin Heistand led the way on defense with 7 total tackles and 2 sacks. Junior captain Mitchell Darrow also played great on defense, tallying 9 tackles and an interception.
The varsity football team will wrap up the regular season on Friday night with their homecoming game at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports. Homecoming festivities begin at 6:30 and kickoff is at 7pm.
Tryouts for the 2015-2016 season of Boys Basketball have been announced. All tryouts will take place in the gym. Please see the below schedule:

There will be a preseason meeting for the Girls Lacrosse Team in Mrs. Doss’ classroom, room 115, on October 20th at 3pm. This meeting is for both new and experienced players, any girls interested in playing should attend!
Junior Manolo Girona, a member of the Laker Golf Team, has verbally committed to become a Florida Gator! Manolo, who currently ranks 74th in the Polo Golf Junior Rankings, has decided to play golf at the University of Florida. A talented student-athlete, Manolo will join the class of 2017 in Gainesville. Check out this feature in GolfWeek on this future Gator!
As the foundation of Laker Athletics, two student-athletes were chosen for their prowess in the pool and on the course.
Marcela Scaramuzza (6th grade, Swimming) Marcela has earned this honor for her stellar swimming performance. She won the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 breaststroke last Thursday against Lake Mary Prep and Master’s Academy. In addition, her 100 breaststroke time broke the school record by a second!
Myles Davis (6th grade, Cross-Country & Football) Competing in two Fall Sports, Myles has earned this recognition for his stamina on the cross-country course. As a 6th grader, he ran in the JV division at the West Orange Invitational last Saturday and recorded a personal best of 22:13.20 in the 5K race.
