GIRLS LACROSSE

The Girls Lacrosse Team took on Ocoee High School on Monday, and the Lakers came out victorious with a score of 20-3. The leading scorers were Emily Whitt with six goals and Morgan Gustovich with four. The team is currently 6-0 and will be back in action for back-to-back home games on March 27th against Horace Mann School and March 28th against Orangewood. Come out and cheer on your Lakers!

BOYS & GIRLS TENNIS

Last week, the Boys Middle School Team picked up their first win of the season, defeating Lake Highland Prep with a score of 5-2. The Lakers played with a lot of patience and consistency to pull through. Oliver Cowin was in a battle at line 3 before pulling out the match at 7-5 to pick up his first singles win of the season. Sulayman Ahmed also picked up his first singles win at line 4, defeating his opponent 6-4. Reece Lenox pulled out his second singles win for the Lakers at line 1 with a score of 6-2. The Boys continued to play strong in the doubles, winning both doubles points. Reece Lenox and Clem DeFabrique won 6-4 at first doubles, and Oliver Cowin and Sulayman Ahmed also won 6-4 at second doubles. The Girls faced a strong Middle School Team against Lake Highland Prep. Allie Conley and Isabella Scherer gave a battle at first doubles before falling 4-6, and Sasha Vallabhaneni and Alexa Lenoci paired up at second doubles also losing a tough one 4-6. Finally, in their second match of the week against TFA, both boys and girls put up a huge fight with many matches going into tiebreakers. Nicholas Steyn picked up the lone win at 3rd singles defeating his opponent 6-3. Clem DeFabrique lost in a tiebreak at first singles, as well in first doubles with partner Sulayman Ahmed. Nicholas Steyn and Jack Mansilla also lost a close tiebreak at 2nd doubles. As for the girls, Alexa Lenoci pulled out a 6-3 win at third singles. Allie Conley and Sasha Vallabhaneni paired up at first doubles, eventually falling in a tiebreak, and Alexa Lenoci and Oliva Edwards also lost in a tiebreak. Keira Begrow played line 5 singles and lost 2-6.

The Boys and Girls JV teams both played against an experienced West Orange team but did not go down without a fight. Evan Steppie played a long singles match at line 3 and pulled out the win defeating his opponent 6-4. Jackson Conley and Blake Steppie had a hard-fought doubles match, eventually falling 5-7. Evan Steppie picked up his second win of the day with Davon Ramiah at second doubles with a score of 6-2.

Varsity had an away match against Circle Christian, and unfortunately, the match had to stop early due to rain. Reagan Parker was ahead in her match 4-0 at first singles and Reese Parker was winning with a 5-0 lead at second singles. More action picks up this week with Boys and Girls JV at home on Tuesday and Varsity Boys at home on Thursday. Keep up the good work, Lakers!

GIRLS LACROSSE

The Girls Lacrosse team took on an undefeated Lake Wales team in the season home opener. The Lakers came out victorious with the score of 9-4! Next up, the team took on The First Academy and finished out the week with another win by a score of 9-6. The Lakers have been working hard preparing for the upcoming week. They will play at home against TFA today, will host All Saints Academy on Tuesday, and then take on Orangewood on Thursday. Let’s go, Lakers!

WPS Hosts Archery Match!

ARCHERY

On Friday, the Varsity Archery team hosted Apopka High School for a one school match. Freshman Mary Cannon won her singles match, scoring 7-1 over her opponent. The team will compete on Saturday in the Orlando Conference Championship at Lake Mary Prep. Good luck, Lakers!

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

On Saturday, the Varsity Beach Volleyball team traveled to Hickory Point where they competed in timed games during this season’s kick-off jamboree. Following a long day filled with competition and successful executions of newly acquired techniques, the Lakers left it all on the court with a 12-3 record and an impressive start to the season! The team’s next match is Tuesday, February 26th at Geneva! Come cheer on your Lakers on their journey to Nationals!
