The Archery team competed well in the Florida State OAS Tournament this past weekend at the Easton Newberry Archery Center. The tournament had well over 120 archers competing from both middle school and high school programs from around the state. The tournament was in two phases: in the morning, all archers shot the ranking round which seeded the archers based on total individual scores. In the afternoon, the Lakers competed in elimination rounds to determine individual and overall state champions. One of our archers, Courtney Eaton, finished in the top ten of the ranking round, which was quite an accomplishment. In the elimination round, Courtney Eaton and Mary Cannon make it to the elite eight. Mary shot extremely well and was eliminated by one point in her final match to qualify into the medal rounds. Courtney was very successful and made it into the Gold Medal match. Courtney took an early lead in the match, shooting mostly 10 and 9’s. However, her competitor came back and ended up winning the match 6 to 4. Congratulations to Courtney for winning the Florida State OAS Silver Medal!

Last week was a challenging week for the Lakers Beach Volleyball team as they took on AA Division teams and last year’s AA state champs, West Orange. Following the loss to West Orange, the Lakers continued to work diligently to improv. Their dedication and drive definitely showed as they finished the week strong celebrating a victory over Dr. Phillips, Bishop Moore, and Montverde Academy. Currently, the Lakers stand with a 4-1 record. With only five matches to go, come cheer on the Lakers as they prepare for the District Championship!
