The Laker Boys Lacrosse team closed out the 2019 season with wins against Celebration High School and University High School. The team finished the season with a record of 8 wins and 7 losses. For the season, Senior Andrew Hunter led all scorers with 55 points (37 goals, 18 assists). The team leader in goals was Jackson Grinnell with 45 and tied for the team lead in assists were Gunnar Kinney and Andrew Hunter, both with 18. Lakers Lacrosse would like to thank the seniors that played this season: Andrew Hunter, Alex Tarpley, Jackson Grinnell, Evan Ziolkowski, Haaris Masood, Luca Falz, Andrew McLean, and Ben Farrell. Way to go, Lakers!
What a week for Laker Softball Team! The team started district opponent Faith Christian. After a bit of back and forth, the Lakers took the lead in the top of the 6th inning to clinch the game 4-3. The team then traveled Masters Academy where they fought hard to take the lead in the top of the 7th. With bases loaded, Lexi King nabbed a hit to left field and threw to home plate where Madison Workman applied the out for a double play to win the game 6-5! Finally, to close out the week, the Lakers let the bats do the talking to beat Ocoee High School 10-0. Way to go, Lakers!
The Lakers do it again! It was another win for the undefeated Girls Lacrosse team on Wednesday against Lake Mary Prep with a score of 18-5. The Lakers came out hot in the first half and continued to play their best for the remainder of the game. To finish off what has been a record-breaking season, the Lakers won their last home game and celebrated Senior Night yesterday against Bartow, making it a historic UNDEFEATED season! Way to go, Lakers!

The Varsity Weight Lifting traveled to Lake Wales this past Saturday for the Regional Championships, and all five of competitors placed in their respective weight classes. Leading the way was JB Blount who placed 2nd. JB also set new personal records with a 350 lb. bench (new school record) and a 270 lb. clean and jerk. Also placing at the Regional Championships were: Andrew Mclean, 4th place; Matthew Kane, 4th place; Najji Allen, 5th place; and Joel Noel, 6th place.
TRACK & FIELD
Returning from a 10-day break, the Laker MS Track Team jumped right back into action last Monday at TFA. Warm temps and tired legs couldn’t slow the Lakers down. Gabriel Mantovani led the team with wins in the 400 and the shot put, Manolo Fernandez Cuadrado finished 2nd in the 100 & 200, Mia Williams took the win in the long jump and finished 2nd in the 200, Sade Laitinen & Eshan Ali had impressive 3rd and 4th place finishes in the 800, while Sade, Lorenzo Allwood, and Michael Crocetti all had strong finishes and PRs in the 1600. Rounding out the top finishes were 8th graders Jason Schwartz (3rd in the 400) and Parker Brown (3rd in the Shot Put). Yesterday afternoon they competed in the final meet of the season, the GOAC Championships at Trinity Prep. Good Luck, Lakers!
Last Monday, sophomore Wade Martin broke the school record in the long jump with a jump of 6.15 meters! Then, the Lakers competed their hearts out on Saturday in the Buffalo Invitational at the Villages Charter School. Laker middle distance runners once again stole the show. Highlights included Chris Fetters’ performance in the 800m run. Going into the postseason, his time moves his ranking to #2 in the District and #6 in the Region. The Boys 4×400m relay of Zuhaib Khan, Mathews Peres, Chris Fetters, and Zavien Williams placed 1st overall and came very close to a 5-year-old school record, in addition to moving their ranking to #2 in the District and Region. On the Girls’ side, seniors Shanthi Ramakrishna, Sabrina Humphrey, and Natasha March teamed up with freshman Ann Casey to run a phenomenal 4×400m relay, the first of its kind since 2015. Districts are April 10th, and the Lakers have never looked stronger. Go Lakers!
