Q&A with International Standout Kim Nguyen
1. Where is your hometown?
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
2. How long have you been playing basketball?
I have been playing for 4 years
3. What are the main differences of basketball in Vietnam and the United States?
Basketball is not a popular sport in Vietnam, therefore, the facilities as well as there activities there are not strongly supported. However, in the US, athletes are greatly taken cared of and trained by the sports programme. In the United States, there are so many different leagues which create opportunities for athletes to prove their skills while in Vietnam, there are only several leagues in one year. Overall, for me, I enjoyed playing basketball in Vietnam as well as in the US, yet, it is more competitive, which pushes athletes to their limits and become great basketball players.
4. Why do you love playing basketball for Windermere Prep?
I met coach Schill in team sports class. I did share her that I played basketball and she told me I should come to try out. At first, I thought that it would be super competitive to play basketball on a team in the US but luckily I was chosen. Playing basketball for Windermere Prep is a new experience for me. I love how “Lady Lakers” practice and compete for our passion as well as the honor of our school. When I make mistakes, I always know that my teammate will there to support me. Although we are 13 people, we meet each other and become a team. We are stuck together by our huge passion for basketball
5. If you could offer one piece of advice to a young girl who is trying to decide if she should start playing sports or not- what would it be?
Just try it! Playing sport is a great opportunity for you to improve your health, meet new people as well as fulfill your passion for the sport. An interesting experience that you should not miss when you are here, at Windermere Prep.
