Busy First Week For Girls Soccer
The Girls Soccer program had a busy opening week. The Varsity team kicked off the season with 3 victories. They beat Victory Christian, Umatilla High School, and Legacy Charter all 5-0. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Hudgins recorded 3 shutouts and sophomore Arianna Bergner led the team with 6 goals. The team has a balanced attack with goals also coming from junior Silvana Lopez, sophomores Angelina Bergner, Manuela Costa, Megan Ikeda, and freshman Isabel Teixeira. This week, the Lakers return to action with home games on Monday against SSAC opponent, Mount Dora Christian and Wednesday against district opponent, Bishop Moore. The JV team opened up their season with a game on the road against East Ridge High School. They tied 1-1 with freshman Emma Conroy scoring the goal and sophomore goalkeeper Izzy Teixeira making numerous great saves. The team came away with a decisive 3-0 win against Umatilla High School on Thursday night. Sophomore Luiza Rosa and freshman Emma Conroy recorded goals while junior Tommie Taylor and sophomore Maria Cunha assisted them. The Middle School team opened up with 2 home games. On Monday, they defeated Forest Lake Academy 2-0. 8th grader Courtney Mogauro and 7th grader Brielyn Knowles scored for the Lakers. On Wednesday, they lost a close game against The Christ School. The team will hit the road with their first away game on Monday at Lake Highland and will play at home on Thursday against The First Academy.
