The Windermere Lakers Middle School Football Team traveled to First Academy Orlando Thursday night to decide the Sunshine State Athletic Conference Central Division Championship. With both teams boasting undefeated records in Division play, and the Lakers coming off last week’s loss to Carrolwood Day, we took the field with something to prove.

The first half saw TFA get the better of us on a pair of long plays from scrimmage despite a Laker touchdown early in the game. Unable to convert the extra point, the score stood at 13 – 6 TFA at halftime.

Then, in TRUE LAKER FASHION, Windermere Prep came to life in the second half! Led by 8th Graders Zane Fullmer, Jaydn Fielder, Quentin Eckert, and Connor Fleischner as well as 7th Grader Jackson Bennett both the offensive and defensive units began to assert themselves on the field. Key moments came in the 3rd quarter. The Lakers converted on a pivotal 4th and long and Jaydn Fielder broke a tackle and received an enormous block from 7th Grader Mason Williams to spring him for a 60 yard scamper to set up the go ahead TD to make the score 14 – 13 Lakers! The fourth quarter saw more heroic play from the Lakers. 8th Graders Zane Fullmer and Andrew Diab made huge plays on offense and defense and we added another touchdown to go up 20-13. With TFA driving, 8th Grader Timmy Granjean made three game saving tackles from his cornerback position, and the relentless Laker Defense held!

Final Score: TFA 13 Lakers 20! 2017 SSAC Central Division Champions!

We excitedly await the announcement of our first round opponent in the Sunshine State Athletic Conference playoffs, beginning next week here at home!

Go Lakers!
