Varsity Track District Meet Results
This past Wednesday afternoon at The First Academy was another good showing for the Windermere Prep School Track and Field program, as the WPS athletes competed for the Florida High School Sports Association Class 1A, District 10 championship. There were good performances for both girls and boys teams. The top four finishers in each finals event qualified for the FHSAA Class 1A Region 3 Championship Friday, April 29, at The First Academy track and field complex.
On the boys’ side, Alex Pogar was the stand out performer for the boys as he missed the district title in the 800 Meter run by .15. Alex finished in second place and recorded a season-best time of 2:06. 29. Other notable performances for the boys were the 4×800 and 4×100 meter relay teams. The 4×800 team composed of Alex Pogar, Eric Wang, Justin Kirtland and Ben Best took second place with a time of 9:11. The 4×100 team composed of Mathews Peres, Diego Crespo, Saad Syed and Zack Heaney finished 4th and qualified for the region championship.
The girls’ team composed of Danielle Hercules, Gabi Orlando and Maya Rifai finished the season in strong fashion. Danielle Hercules won her first district triple jump championship with a personal-record and school record jump of 34 feet, 11 inches. Danielle also qualified in the 100 and 200 meter dash races finishing 3rd in both. Maya Rifai finished the season strong with a time of 6:05 in the 1600 meter run and 2:51 in the 800 meter run. Gabi Orlando had a great season with best times of 13:21 in the 3200 meter run, 5:57 in the 1600, and 2:45 in the 800.
