Boys Basketball - Week Recap

The first week of December was a very busy one for the boys basketball program. In total, 16 games were played between the program’s 6 teams.

Varsity Basketball

The varsity team competed in 3 games last week, all resulting in victory for the Lakers. The Laker offense was on fire, scoring at least 77 points in all three games. Some of the key contributors to the victories included David Nickelberry, Parker Davis, Xion Golding, and Mitchell Siegel. The varsity team now is now 6-1 this season.

12/1 – WPS 81 West Orange 77
Stat leaders: Parker Davis (24 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds) Xion Golding (24 points, 8 rebounds) David Nickelberry (16 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists)

12/3 – WPS 77 Orangewood Christian 40
Stat leaders: David Nickelberry (18 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists) Parker Davis (17 points, 4 assists) Mitchell Siegel (14 points)

12/5 – WPS 81 Foundation Academy 44
State leaders: David Nickelberry (18 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds) Parker Davis (17 points, 7 assists, 4 steals) Tristan Clapham (15 points- 5/6 from 3 point line)

Junior Varsity

The JV Basketball team wad a very busy week, playing in 4 games and winning all 4! The Lakers were lead by strong performances at both ends of the court, holding opposing teams to low scores while putting up points on the offense. Key contributors to the victories included Jeffrey Watson, Mason Russel, and Omar Bhaghani. The JV team is now 4-1 this season.

12/1 – WPS 76 West Orange 55

12/3 – WPS 73 Orangewood Christian 34
Stat leaders: Jeffrey Watson (19 points) Mason Russell (17 points) Omar Bhaghani (14 points)

12/4 – WPS 68 Foundation Academy 19
Stat leaders: Jeffrey Watson (16 points) Mason Russell (16 points) Emir Turkoz (11 points) Omar Bhaghani (11 points)

12/5 – WPS 62 Jones 39
Stat leaders: Jeffrey Watson (20 points, 8 assists) Mason Russell (12 points, 11 rebounds) Omar Bhaghani (10 points)

Freshman Team

The Freshman team competed in two games this week, winning one and losing the other. Both games were very competitive and featured some great plays at both ends of the court. Key contributors were Rick Walcott and Zavien Williams. The team sits at 3-2 at this point in the season.

12/5 – WPS 57 Jones High School 43
Stat leader: Rick Walcott (17 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists)

8th Grade Team

On Saturday, the 8th grade basketball team competed against both The First Academy (Orlando) and Foundation Academy. In each game, the Lakers fought hard but fell short in the end. Key contributors were Eric Casaburi and Tyson Hanning. The 8th grade team is now 0-3 and still searching for their first win of the season.

7th Grade Team

The 7th grade competed in two close games, falling just short in each. The point differential in each game was in the single digits, but in the end the Lakers couldn’t find the win. Key contributors were Cole Nabavi and Jaden Knowles. The 7th grade team’s record is now 2-4.

6th Grade Team

The youngest of the Laker basketball programs, the 6th grade team, also competed in two games this past week. There were some milestones this week, including Arman Ali scoring his first basket as a Laker! Key contributors were Hunter Goldberg and Jayden Williams. The 6th grade team’s record is now 4-2.
