Varsity Football Wins on Homecoming
The Varsity Football team played their senior night and homecoming game under the lights at the Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The Lakers took on Keswick Christian High School in a very exciting game that saw WPS take home the victory with a 49-21 victory.
The Lakers offense started fast, scoring on its first drive of the game. Senior Zach Heaney ran like a man possessed, breaking out on the second play of the game for a 44 yard touchdown run. Zach would finish with 178 yards rushing on 19 carries. He would score 3 touchdowns throughout the course of the game. While Heaney provided the burst on offense on the ground, several Lakers got in on the action through the air. Senior QB Parker Davis was 9/15 on the night, throwing touchdowns to Senior Yasseen Aratius and Junior Will Seelman. The Lakers would finish the night with a total of 236 yards on the ground and 123 through the air.
Defensively, the Lakers would struggle early on, but find their rhythm in the second half. Keswick was finding early success through the air, while being stuffed in the run game. The Laker D would hold the Crusaders to an astonishing -10 rushing yards on the night. The defense firmed up after allowing an early TD, holding Keswick scoreless through the second and third quarter. In the 4th quarter, Keswick would add two late touchdowns against some of the younger Lakers getting reps as the game was winding down.
The varsity football team has two more games to play. They will be back in action for another home game this Friday against Legacy Charter, and will then travel to Central Florida Christian Academy on November 6th to conclude the season.
