Last week, Laker Softball had two games. The first game was against a District opponent, Lake Mary Prep where the Lakers won big with a score of 10-0 in 6 innings! The bats came alive as Meredith Workman and Mia Williams hit home runs and Grace Bennett blasted a triple with runners on board! Lexi King pitched a 1-hitter and struck out 10 moving the Lakers into a winning record for the first time in 3 years! On Friday, the Lakers were on the road against Legacy Charter and made short work of them winning 12-0 in 5 innings! The Lakers tallied homeruns by Mia, Madison, and Meredith, and Grace would tore up the field with a double and a triple! Lexi again found the strike zone pitching another a 1-hitter. Overall, the Lakers scored 22 runs in two match ups and held their opponents to 0 runs! The team is on a 2-week break, but will be back on March 27th when they play at Home against Legacy!
On Varsity, the Lakers traveled to Orangewood Christian on Thursday. After a quick start, the Lakers battled back from a four goal deficit to send the game into overtime at 10-10. Leading the offensive charge was Captain Emily Whitt who scored an impressive 7 goals for the Lakers. Captains Emma Conroy and Sarah Horn also found the back of the net to combine for 3 goals. On defense, Paige Leber dominated the net with a record-breaking 25 saves! Despite the Lakers’ tenacious efforts, time ran out with a final score of 13-10. Following Thursday’s game, the Lakers were ready for redemption hosting Bartow High School on Saturday. Having previously lost to Bartow in the season opener 8-5, the Lakers set the tempo from the start and earned their first victory of the season with a score of 12-5! From the first whistle, the team dominated the ball scoring 9 unanswered goals and holding Bartow to only one shot in the first half. On offense, the Lakers had numerous contributors with Captain Sarah Horn tallying 5 goals, Captain Emma Conroy scoring 4, as well as Calee Scott, Kelsey Tanner, and Ali Dimova each adding one. Captain Filippa Falz set the pace in the midfield and led the defense, nabbing 5 crucial draw controls and 3 groundballs. Senior Captain Kateryna Tymofeieva, Becca Sealy, Emerson Hilgenfeldt, and Halldora Thorsdottir combined for 10 impressive caused turnovers, and Paige Leber blocked 4 shots in net. The Lakers return to the field on March 27th when they host Berkeley Prep at 4:45 pm. We hope to see you there!

It was another busy week on the tennis courts! The Middle School team showed their strength with decisive wins against The First Academy with the Boys winning 6-1 and Girls winning 5-2. The Lakers then took on Lake Mary Prep, and once again they won convincingly, Boys 6-1 and Girls 5-1. Reagan Parker and Lucas Ramey, our line one players, won both their singles matches convincingly! The JV teams played 2 matches last week. They played West Orange High School with mixed results as the Boys won 6-1 and the Girls lost 5-2. Their second match was against Olympia, which was challenging but excellent practice as both Girls and Boys lost 5-1 and 6-1, respectively.The Varsity team took on The First Academy with wins for the Boys 6-1 and Girls 5-2. Paula Stiegler won singles without the loss of one game! This week, the Lakers have a JV match against West Orange on Monday and two Varsity matches on Thursday and Friday versus Lakeland Christian School and Cornerstone. Good Luck, Lakers!
The Laker Track and Field Team continued their season last weekend at the Jeff Wentworth Relays at The First Academy. The Men’s 4×800 relay team of Jackson Roth, Andrew Caylor, Justin Kirtland, and Andrew Hammer placed 4th, improving on their season best by three seconds. Roberto Salamo continued his excellent senior season by placing 4th in the 100m. He also teamed up with Zuhaib Khan, Zavien Williams, and Andrew Hammer to place 5th in the 4×400 relay. Finally, Roth and Caylor were joined by Aidan Sakata and Antonio Scaramuzza to place 8th in the distance medley relay. The Girls team participated in two meets this weekend competing in both the Jeff Wentworth Relays and the Eagle Classic at Montverde Academy on Saturday. While almost the entire team competed on Friday evening at the Wentworth Relays, Lauren Isbel, Shanthi Ramakrishna, and Mirabella Miranda competed in both events! It is very difficult to compete in meets on back-to-back days, and these athletes served very strong performances in the 4×100m relay, the 100m, the 1600m, and the high jump between the three. The Lakers are back in action next Saturday at the Brian Jaeger Classic in Winter Park.
The first Middle School GOAC Track Meet of the season was one for the record books. For the first time ever, the Boys team finished in first place, beating Trinity Prep by 33 points! The Girls team came in 2nd place, scoring far more points than any previous WPS squad! The following Lakers led the charge with top finishes:

Champion 4×100 relays for both boys and girls of Adam & Joseph Fadhli, Nick Hauck, Jayden Williams; Julia High, Suveda Ramakrishna, Makenna Scott, and Keyla Ramos.
Finally, a thrilling 1st place victory by the boys 4×400 M Relay of Jayden Williams, Nathan Brady, Caleb Cheng, and Charlie Holden.
The Lakers will be in action at 3:30 pm today for their only Home meet of the season! Come cheer them on!
